How to Calculate the Gas Capacity of Your Equipment

Accurately calculating gas capacity helps prevent system overload and ensures efficient gas consumption. In this article, we’ll go over the key calculation steps.

1. Identify Your Gas Consumers

The main household gas appliances include:

  • Gas boiler (heating): 10-30 kW

  • Gas stove: 1.5-2.5 kW per burner

  • Gas water heater: 15-25 kW

  • Gas convector: 2-6 kW

2. Calculate the Total Capacity

Simply add up the capacity of all appliances. Example:

  • Boiler – 24 kW

  • Water heater – 20 kW

  • Gas stove (4 burners, 2 kW each) – 8 kW
    Total capacity = 24 + 20 + 8 = 52 kW

3. Apply the Simultaneous Use Factor

Since not all appliances run at full power simultaneously, use a factor of 0.7-0.8:

  • 52 × 0.8 = 41.6 kW

4. Convert Capacity to Gas Consumption

The approximate gas consumption is 0.1 m³/h per 1 kW:

  • 41.6 × 0.1 = 4.16 m³/h

5. Choose the Appropriate Gas Pipe Diameter

To ensure proper gas supply, select the right pipe diameter:

  • Up to 4 m³/h25 mm

  • 4-6 m³/h32 mm

  • 6-10 m³/h40 mm

For your home, you need:
✅ A gas connection of ≈4.2 m³/h
✅ A 32 mm or larger gas pipe
✅ A power reserve for future expansion
